It is vital for a dental assistant applying for a job to read and ensure that you understand the dental assistant job description before submitting your resume or schedule an interview. For one, they vary depending on your location such as some states requires some regulations and procedures are met before you can apply, others have specific instructions and detailed overview on what you need to expect and what they expect from you when you do the job.

Most of the time, a dental assistant job description includes administrative or paper work for filing patient’s information, giving detailed instructions and answers to customers queries, appointment setting, requesting and processing orders for supplies needed in the office. Others also entail follow-ups with patients, may also include getting x-rays from various types of customers, maintaining the cleanliness of equipments (making sure that they are sterilized) and creating mixtures for chemicals and compounds for teeth cleaning and fillings. He or she may also be present while the dentist is doing the dental procedures and making sure that all necessary equipments are available when needed. The dentist may also instruct him or her to do some of the procedures on their behalf with their supervision.

Some dental assistant job description includes salary expectation when performing the job. Normally it varies from $25,000 to more than $30,000 in an average per year. Number of years of experience plays a major role on defining what will be our salary as most of the time the more experience you have the more chances of you being paid more. This is important as well to know to gauge the location of the job from your home to calculate your daily expenses when you take the job if it’s really worth it your time.

When checking dental assistant job description, you need to ensure that you meet all of the necessary requirements to save time and money on the process. Some state does not required anyone to be a licensed or registered dental assistant before you get qualified for the job but some only requires a high school diploma and you are good to go. It is always better though that you at least take some short courses available in your area, most community schools do offer these courses that only requires not even a year to learn what you need to do the job. This will also prepares and expose you to the job you are about to do for more years to come.
