The dental assistant duties one would assume in a dental office or clinic will vary according to the job. That is why courses are offered that cover every possibility. Learning things from data entry to the structure of a tooth apply in almost every situation.
A dental assistant supplies support for all areas of a dental office or other employment. This would include administrative, clinical and staff. This means that things such as maintaining dental equipment and supplies, making reports, assist with dental and radiography procedures are expected.
Some Dental Assistant Duties
Included in this support are things such as chair-side assistance (for dentists or hygienists), assisting with oral procedures, preparing, sterilizing, organizing and setting up dental equipment. In addition, all dental equipment, such as evacuator systems, must be monitored and maintained. This is only part of the very important dental assistant duties involved with this position.
When a patient arrives at the dental office, the assistant will be expected to escort them to the dental chair, see that they are comfortable and place a protective bib on them. Knowing, in advance, of what work is to be done, the assistant will have all the necessary instruments and other equipment ready for use. Many times, after an examination, the dentist will require x-rays to be taken and developed.
Of course, when the patient treatment is completed, his or her chart must be filled out regarding what the dentist discovered and what procedure was done. Often, the assistant will hold the chart and, as the examination progresses, the dentist will relate what teeth on the chart need to be marked for possible further treatment.
